Good News!

One of my students has just decided to become a Christian! This is an exciting event and I ask for your prayers to support this student with his recent decision. I do not know what kind of home environment he lives in, but I can guarantee it is not as supportive as New Day. I have not been able to talk with him personally yet, but he said that it was our influence at New Day that made him decide to become a Christian. This is such a great testimony! His story helps to exemplify what my purpose at New Day was (and New Day's purpose). It is illegal to go out and preach the gospel, so the way that we are able to be missionaries in China is by provide services and letting our actions speak louder than our words. When someone asks you questions you can then explain to them what Christianity is all about. So, I've had many people ask me whether this was a missions trip or internship. The answer is both, it is only through my internship and services as a teacher that I was able to show Christ to the students.

It's a great thing to see the seeds we planted at New Day continue to grow and produce fruit. I am excited to see what other good news will come. I also rest assured that only God knows the true differences we made in their life - I am sure I will never know the extent to which the students lives were touched by their time at an "English School". (Those students had no idea what they were in for when they signed up for classes at New Day :)

Top Ten Things to Know When Visiting China

1. Do not flush the toilet paper (for that matter bring your own, just in case)
2. Yes, everyone is looking at you – you are not paranoid.
3. Whatever price someone tries to sell a product to you for, divide it by 10 and then you will know how much you should actually pay for it.
4. It is totally fine to bring the bowl up to your face and slurp noodles – so have fun and enjoy your meal. In fact it is polite to make noises, it shows that you are enjoying it.
5. Buy Tienda (flat bread with sugar inside). It is amazing.
6. Ignore the smell, there is nothing you can do about it.
7. Bring an extra suitcase and plan to do all your Christmas shopping while in China.
8. Get out and walk around, enjoy the sights and the people, try to talk to them – they love it if you show an interest in them and/or their country.
9. If you ask someone how to get somewhere and they don't know – they may make up directions. They view this as being more polite than saying “I don't know”. So you may want to get a second opinion.
